The ChoreoLab is a program sponsored by the Junction Dance Festival. The ChoreoLab offers dance artists and performers the opportunity to work, create and rehearse for nine weeks in a beautiful studio at no cost to them, during the late spring and summer. The performance is the culminating product of their efforts.

Dogs and Horses by Martina Lundström, Martina's performances address the ambivalence about being an artist while living off a trust fund. She challenges her inheritance of a power and privilege that has been beneficial to her. By narrating vulnerable stories about herself, her family and her dog, as well as fantasies and fairytales, she breaks through the dysfunctional silence that oppresses and protects the culture of the owning class. She received an MFA with a focus on performance at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University in 2019. Lundström grew up in Sweden where the inevitability of ‘outside’ and a certain angle of light came to inform her belief in art as a medium for making things.

your eyes need tears to work correctly by Mary Chris Debelina, with Ellis Broderick, Leila Faulstich, Anna Goodling and Elizabeth Kurylo. Mary Chris graduated from Dartmouth with a BA in biology and went on to Sarah Lawrence College and earned her MFA in dance. In those years she taught and choreographed for the Dartmouth Dance Ensemble and founded the Children’s Creative Dance program at Dartmouth. In 2019, MC choreographed and danced for the Juventas Music Ensemble. This was the beginning of a lovely collaboration. MC has danced for Juventas a number of times since then and is proud to be a part of Shell and Wing, which won The American Prize Ernst Bacon Award for Performance of American Music. She teaches modern dance and ballet at Contemporary Dance and Fitness Studio and Dance for Parkinsons at the Montpelier Senior Center. In addition to creating her own work, MC dances with Willow Wonder and Hannah Dennison and is a member of the Vermont Dance Alliance.

Passacaille de Persee, a short baroque dance created for Lully's opera "Persee" in the late 17th century; choreography of Guillaume-Louis Pecour. The passacaille is taught and adapted by Elizabeth Kurylo from the Beauchamp/ Feuillet notation, and will be performed by Ellis Broderick and Julie Frew.

And a premiere, a special screening of Our Voices, Bodies Rising-- the Film--Beyond Suffrage Toward Women’s Empowerment by Peggy Brightman, Director /Choreographer and Carla Kimball, Filmmaker. Peggy Brightman is a life-long choreographer, and member of the Wednesday Poets. She has enjoyed intermedia collaborations with noted composers and artists in performances across the Northeast, in NYC, and abroad. Since 2012, Peg has worked with Moving Spirit Dancers in the Woodstock area, presenting dances at the North Chapel and other venues. This film originated as a “live” performance of poetry and dance, sponsored by Bookstock 2020, planned to mark the centennial of women’s suffrage, but after two rehearsals in the Spring, the pandemic forced its cancellation. Determined to continue working, Peg conspired with Carla Kimball, a videographer with a strong background in photography and dance, who had begun to experiment with filmmaking; they developed a plan for creating a new genre of “distanced” film, reversing traditional working method of choreographers, dancers, and film-makers.
