Know Your Rights Free Training: With Kira Kelley: What constitutional protections do you have when dealing with police officers, ICE, and other government agents? How do you go through a border patrol checkpoint safely? What are ways you can use your Constitutional rights to build community opposition to border patrol and to make VT safer for immigrants?
Kira Kelley: I grew up in Hartland VT, and after brief stints in other places (Louisiana, NYC, DC, Burlington) settled in Windsor VT. I've worked a variety of jobs, everything from testing asphalt sealant to substitute teaching. Now, as an attorney, I give know-your-rights trainings, do pro bono legal work for activist groups, and help towns pass laws that put human and environmental rights over profit interests. When I'm not at my home office or in court, I'm out playing shows with my band, Jack in the Pulpit.
