“Nikhil P. Yerawadekar and Low Mentality make some of the best music coming out of NYC. Not the best Afrobeat, not the best post-highlife, not the best South African psychedelic disco. Some of the best music, period.”-Saxon Baird, AFROPOP WORLDWIDE
Low Mentality features Nikhil P. Yerawadekar (Antibalas) Mayteana Morales (Pimps of Joytime), Carter Yasutake (LCD Soundsystem), Jeremy Wilms (Chin Chin) and Andy Bauer (Twin Shadow), bringing you a new organic live show concept for the mind, body and soul.
Multi-instrumentalist and producer Nikhil P. Yerawadekar creates propulsive new flavors with his Low Mentality project, delivering personal and uplifting original songs suitable for dancefloors, car stereos and headphones worldwide. The group plays organically cultivated styles drawing from Nikhil’s wide range of experiences, from his formative years as a teenage hip-hop junkie in Queens, NY, to later in his life when he found himself working closely with artists such as Hailu Mergia (Awesome Tapes From Africa), Zap Mama, Tony Allen, Cedric “Im” Brooks and Khaira Arby, and performing all over the world with Antibalas and collaborators such as Santigold, Sharon Jones, Billy Gibbons, Nels Cline and Esperanza Spalding. The hidden intersections between these broad-ranging musical vibrations are reflected in Low Mentality’s debut album Everything Lasts Forever, released April 2016 on 3rd Generation Recordings, with its lead single “Six Shooter AKA The History Of Dance” (featuring Kendra Morris) reaching over a million plays on Spotify. The band’s music has been featured as Song Of The Day on KEXP and KUT, and continues to be discovered by vinyl lovers and connoisseurs of funky, heartfelt and interesting music across the globe.
“The band’s funk was crisp and disciplined, informed by American soul but also at home with the rolling six-beat vamps of Ethiopian funk.”-Jon Pareles, NEW YORK TIMES"Like the album cover, Nikhil seems to capture the temperature and tempo of New York with a sprawling sound that marries the rhythm and grooves of Antibalas’ afrobeat and infuses it into all sorts of interesting pop and rock motifs. It’d be hard to capture everything going on in this album in a quick capsule review, but rest assured it is literate and fun and funky; familiar and yet utterly unique. Everything Lasts Forever is a hidden gem and highly recommended."-Aaron Stein, JAMBASE
Hailing from diverse musical backgrounds, Nina's Brew is a melting pot of influence, genre and talent. The trio joined forces in winter of 2017 in Burlington, VT, where the singer-songwriters first met. Together, their sound is rooted in blues, soul, rock and r&b. Shared lead vocals, tight harmonies, and space for some heavy blues guitar shredding are what set this group apart.
Isaac, Michael and Giovanina have been in the New England scene for some time, navigating solo and band projects alike. When they decided to give it a go, the trio hit the ground running, supporting some of their favorites including, Zach Deputy, Ryan Montbleau Band, and Hayley Jane & The Primates. They also made their 2018 debut at Grace Potter's, Grand Point North festival, hosted on Burlington's waterfront. The trio features Giovanina Bucci on rhythm guitar, Michael Brewster on lead lead guitar, and Isaac French on cajon, with all three singing. Their live performance is uniquely infectious and soulful and not to be missed.
