The genre of art known as Eco-Art is an important contemporary art movement that has roots in the past, but major relevance NOW in the age of climate change concerns and actions.

Overview

Join Vermont Eco-Artist ANNE CUMMINGS for a virtual workshop in 3 sessions which will introduce the basic concepts and practices of Eco-Art, and look at how to apply eco-friendly methods, materials, and ideas to your own art creations! Anyone with an interest in this contemporary art movement, working in any media/material and all levels of experience are welcome!

Goals

  1. Introduce the concept of Eco-Art, and Eco-Artists who practice in VT and beyond.
  2. Guide participants through starting their own Eco-Art practice or assessing their current art making, viewed through an Eco-Art lens.
  3. Plan and create an Eco-Art project during the workshop, with an opportunity to be showcased by Across Roads Center for the Arts in a future exhibition.

ABOUT ANNE:

Anne Cummings is passionate about three things: Art, Nature, and Education. The three come together in her work as an Eco-Artist and art educator. Anne creates art from recycled, reused, and repurposed materials, to minimize its impact on the environment and to educate viewers about environmental issues. Anne creates and teaches from her conviction to use Eco-Art for change.

In teaching, Anne’s goal is to personalize the art learning experience for each participant to make it fun, comfortable, and productive. Anne has taught in a variety of settings, from art centers and museums to public schools. Anne recently retired from a 21 year career as an art educator at Colchester High School and is now a working studio artist, in addition to teaching workshops and classes at many locations around Vermont.
Anne’s involvement in the arts has been a lifelong pursuit, beginning with art classes at the famed Toledo Museum of Art as a child, to creating and teaching in many venues throughout the Midwest and Vermont. Anne has worked professionally in the arts in many capacities. She has been a business owner, exhibition curator and designer, museum store manager, artists’ representative, graphic artist, grants writer, member of a fiber artists’ cooperative, and art consultant. Anne pursued a joint Bachelor of Arts degree in studio art and art history from Ohio University and later did graduate work in history and art history at the University of Toledo and Ohio State University. She completed a Master’s degree at Saint Michael’s College in Arts in Education.
In her recent work, Anne is exploring the use of vintage and historical images, along with recycled and re-purposed mixed media, to collage on any available surface. Her artistic intent is to convey meaning about the way we view our identity, our sense of place in time and the environment, and our relationships with the human and natural worlds
