$0.00 - $40.00

Event Details

This new and original all ages show, sponsored in part by a creation grant from The Vermont Arts Council, pairs No Strings Marionette Company with composer and conductor Paul Perley. The marionettes, scenery, and musical compositions specially created to tell the tale of twins Quill and Foyle as they set out to find their life and purpose. Along the way their motives blur as they question what it means to give other beings and ecosystems the rights humans claim for ourselves.

Paul Perley’s music includes cello (Melissa Perley), piano (Michiko Oishi), bass (Eben Bodach-Turner), and percussion - cajon, brushed cymbals (Keith Gibson).

The run time will be 45 minutes, followed by a demonstration, answer questions, meet the composer, puppeteers, musicians and puppets that can last up to 1/2 hour.

All ages welcome.

No Strings Marionette Company

Puppeteers Dan Baginski and Barbara Paulson's traveling stage transforms any space into an intimate theater, where the seamless blend of movement, music and masterful manipulation captivates young and old alike. With puppeteers in full view, the audience sees how the puppets are brought to life. Twenty seven years creating together, these Vermont artisans lovingly hand craft the marionettes, props and scenery, whether for an original tale or an adaptation of a classic. Once the mind believes there are no strings...this realm becomes real...and the Adventure begins!

Composer Paul Perley began music studies with piano at age 8. This was soon followed by classical guitar studies and later with cello. He is a founding member of the Montpelier Chamber Orchestra, and for the past 20 years, co-director of the Repertory Orchestra of the Green Mountain Youth Symphony with his wife Melissa Perley. Composition began post-college in the form of creating musical interludes for various drama productions. His more recent works have been performed by youth orchestras, the Montpelier Chamber Orchestra, the Five Corners String Quintet, and the string orchestra Eleva. He has also filled commissions for solo pieces for cello and piano, some of which have been premiered by his wife Melissa. Paul is excited to be working with the talented team of Barbara and Dan in scoring this show which features their amazing marionettes.
