On Thursday, July 13, Common Roots, Vermont Wine Merchants, and The Chaine du Vermont will host The 3rd Annual Bastille Day at The Wheeler Homestead in South Burlington VT. We celebrate the many pleasures of the table while raising money to bolster the increased demand for fresh, locally-grown organic produce at three local food shelves.

All proceeds from ticket sales for this Vermont-inspired multi-course meal, French wine pairings, and entertainment will support The Common Roots mission. Your contribution supports food access and education through the Common Roots Farmstand at the Food Shelf Plus Program.

As a local nonprofit, Common Roots grows increased volumes of certified organic food for families and households to choose from.

Vermont food shelves are grappling to keep up with increased demand, as more and more families have turned to them to fill their fridges and pantries as food costs soar during the pandemic. Today in South Burlington, one out of four households struggles to put food on the table. Across Vermont, food insecurity has nearly tripled since 2018.

Historically, Bastille Day marks the start of The French Revolution and represents a call for Liberty and Equity for all. Amid today's chaotic and turbulent landscape, we see this event as an opportunity to celebrate unity as we invite EVERYONE to gather together and break bread in solidarity. Food not only nourishes us but sustains our health and well-being. Now more than ever, food is a social instrument and a connector of people in communion.

“Our community has come together to create a dynamic event to help us strengthen food security for our friends and neighbors in need," said Carol McQuillen, executive director of Common Roots. “Partnering with The Chaine du Vermont," we will throw a spectacular celebration of life, love, and meaningful purpose. This is a meal with a mission!”

All of the locally sourced produce, meats, cheeses, and other dairy and wines have been generously donated to raise the impact of ticket sales. The meal features many different varieties of ROP-certified organic produce grown by Common Roots on its two farm plots in South Burlington.

The event is co-sponsored by the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, a world-renowned gastronomic association. With roots tracing back to 12th-century France. From celebrations to competitions, culinary masterpieces, and conviviality, We welcome everyone to the table!

"The Vermont Wine Merchants Company" is proud to sponsor and currently carries over 2,000 wines from over 300 producers, both domestic and internationally. Vermont Wine Merchants’ portfolio represents and recognizes the finest brands the industry has to offer. All of our wines are individually selected by the owners to ensure our customers the highest quality product there is to offer in an ever-developing market.
