An expanded version of our popular single-evening bicycle care clinic "The One Night Stand", The Spring Tune-Up Workshop is a three week series for folks who would like a little more time, detailed instruction, and hands on experience. With a 3:1 student-to-instructor ratio this class is designed to empower participants by helping them understand and care for their bicycles.
This is a three week class. Registration closes on the first date, or when the workshop is full, whichever comes first.
Session 1 (May 14): How to fix a flat tire and clean a bike
Session 2 (May 21): Cable and housing systems
Session 3 (May 28): Take what you learned in Sessions 1 & 2 to clean and tune your own bike!
Sessions 1 & 2 will be conducted using class bikes. Session 3 is BYO...Bike!
What you learn in this workshop will help you stay safer, keep your bike running longer, and give you confidence in either getting what you need at the bike shop or figuring out how to deal with it on your own.
The workshop will provide useful skills and knowledge that every bicycle user should have, such as:
- How to remove and reinstall your wheels
- How to fix a flat tire
- How to clean and care for your chain and gears
- How to perform a safety check on your bike
- How to keep a regular bicycle cleaning routine (and what is and is not important to clean)
Location: Old Spokes Home Community Workshop, 664 Riverside Drive, Wednesdays 6-8 pm . Bike stands, tools and supplies will be provided. Workshop tuition supports Old Spokes Home's nonprofit mission to create access to bikes and the opportunities they provide for our community. For interested students for whom tuition is a barrier, scholarships are available - please email [email protected]
All participants will receive 20% off of a tool purchase at Old Spokes Home.
